About the Author


Eva Khashnobish spent the first 22 years of her life at Arrah, Bhagalpore, Buxar and Darbhanga in Bihar. She studied all through in Bihar and then at Oxford. She worked as lecturer in colleges at Patna, Dhanbad, Shillong and Delhi.

Her husband is also from Bihar. Along with her husband, Air Commodore DK Khashnobish, she spent her subsequent life at Delhi, Pathankot, Allahabad, Bangalore, Jodhpur and Nasik. After her children grew up, she went to Gulbarga(Karnataka) & Ethiopia on teaching assignments. At present, she and her husband are living in Noida (UP), a new township adjacent to Delhi

Though she has spent all her life outside Bengal, she had a passion for writing stories in Bengali right from her school days. Once possessed of an idea for a story, she could not rest till it was reduced to writing. But she had no interest in getting her stories published. As a result, all her manuscripts were accumulating in boxes. Later, on her husband's initiative, the stories were sent for publication. The first story, 'Chhabilal' was published in 'Nabakallol' in 1977. After that more than 200 stories have been published in various magazines. Some of her stories have been broadcast from All India Radio.

In February 2005 she was awarded Rabindra Puraskar by Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan, Delhi.

She was awarded Gayatri Gamarsh Memorial Award for the year 2012 by Ananda Mandir, Somerset, New Jersey, USA for literary excellence in Bengali.
